I think it could be done — I’ve seen battery-powered displays that can be weatherproofed — but it’s not a trivial problem. But it’s fraught with problems too. Printers generally require power and USB-cable connections, and they’re not designed to be schlepped around and set up on rickety tables in the woods. That was possible because tracks almost always have power outlets at the finish line and because it never rains at indoor meets.
